What is Black Pepper Extract? Black Pepper Extract is commonly used around the world to enhance the flavor of food. The benefits of Black Pepper Extract are typically attributed to it's active ingredient, piperine, may play a role in supplement and drug metabolism. This mechanism may increase the absorption rates of some ingredients.

Glucuronidation, the process where a glucuronide molecule attaches to a drug/ingredient for urinary excretion, is inhibited with piperine consumption. The glucuronidation process prevents excess levels of drugs/supplements in the body. While this may be good in some instances, this mechanism may lead ot detrimental levels of other drugs/supplements within the blood.

Most notably, Black Pepper Extract increases the absorption of curcumin; an antioxidant that has been associated to relieve chronic pain and depression. Since curcumin has poor bioavailability as a stand-alone ingredient, it often times finds itself paired with Black Pepper Extract to enhance absorption.
