In one randomized controlled trial composed of elite cyclists, supplementation with collagen preserved markers of bone mineral density during the off season. Another study conducted on elderly sarcopenic men found that collagen peptide supplementation combined with resistance training improved body composition and increased muscle strength. These findings suggests that collagen strengthens bones and muscles, which may prevent injury. Other research suggests that collagen may promote the synthesis of muscle proteins as well as stimulate muscle growth post-workout.
