Acetyl-L-Carnitine

Acetyl-L-Carnitine is primarily used in sports nutrition for energy production and enhanced focus.

Overview

What is Acetyl-L-Carnitine? Acetyl-l-carnitine is an acetylated form of L-carnitine that poses a plethora of health benefits, but is typically used for its role in energy production. It works by aiding in the transport of fatty acids into the mitochondria of cells to be used as energy. The benefits of Acetyl-L-Carnitine are extensive.

Acetyl-l-carnitine, or ACL carnitine, is an acetylated form of l-carnitine; because of this, it is the most bioavailable form of carnitine and is more effective at crossing the blood brain barrier than other sources of carnitine.

Because of its role in energy production, ACL carnitine is typically used in thermogenic formulas to aid in weight loss. However, more studies are needed to validate this claim. Some meta analyses have suggested that ACL carnitine does pose benefit for weight loss, but ACL carnitine supplementation was not isolated from other variables such as exercise, diet, or weight loss drugs.

ACL carnitine does pose many nootropic benefits including reduction in depressive symptoms and minor improvements in cognitive function. ACL carnitine also plays a significant role in metabolic health and has been shown to lower liver enzymes in individuals with nonaloholic fatty liver disease, reduce blood pressure, reduce triglyceride levels, lower blood pressure, lower total cholesterol, increase HDL cholesterol (good cholesterol), lower LDL (bad cholesterol), reduce markers of oxidative stress, and reduce chronic inflammation.

The benefits of ACL carnitine supplementation is extensive. For more information, read here ⬇️
